The Ellis Stompbox is not really a guitar effect, it is used as a foot rhythm accompaniment device. You plug it into a
bass/keyboard amp or straight into the PA and you instantly got a low kick drum sound to go along with your guitar or
somtimes drummers use them I think. I've only used with a PA and it's quite easy to get a very usable sound. When I use
another preamp I get the best sounds (Sansamp Para DI)
Great low sound, you'll need to find a sweet spot and hit your foot on that.
The sound straight out of the unit is very broad which I think is good as you can then tailor the sound how you want it.
For me I like lows and not much else so it's easy to EQ it like that. I've heard them eq'd for high stomp sounds and these
work well also.
Backup isn't really needed I don't think. They are well-built but they are not designed to be thrown around etc,
I'd say if you treat it with respect it will reward you.
Ellis has been quick to respond to any of my questions before and after puchase
For what it does..I think this is one of the better stompboxes on the market, I've seen others such as the poarchboard,
and they sound very great, i think the ellis wins for me as it is the size of a cd and can fit in your guitar case pocket,
so it wins for me in looks and portability and sound.
