LOCAL W.A GUITAR MANUFACTURER
LAUNCHES HIS FIRST SIGNATURE SERIES

West Australia’s premium guitar craftsman, Andrew Ellis of ellis guitars, is proud to launch his first series of signature custom-built acoustic guitars, with the help of WA’s best musical talent.

Multi-award winning singer/songwriter Nathan Gaunt and successful folk/blues act Dave Mann will both debut their custom made ellis guitars at a Triple J sponsored music event at the Fly-By Night Club in Fremantle on Australia Day eve (Tuesday, 25th January).

Based in Perth, Andrew has been a guitar luthier for 8 years. His passion and dedication for creating premium quality guitars evolved into the formation of his own company, ellis guitars, in 2001. Since then Andrew’s skills have been in high demand, creating custom made guitars for some of the country’s best guitarists. ellis guitars also offer short courses in basic acoustic guitar maintenance, including what to look for when buying a used acoustic guitar.

Andrew’s unique master craftsmanship has already seen him attract a flurry of interest from both interstate and overseas. ellis guitars is the only WA based manufacturer selected to attend Australia’s Number 1 Guitar Festival in Frankston, Victoria, in March 2005. The Festival showcases the country’s best guitar makers and is expected to attract between 8,000-12,000 musicians from around the world.

Ellis guitars blends the values of traditional handcraft with modern technology to produce sweet sounding instruments. Some of these methods include:

  • The selection of timbers from around the globe, renowned for their superior acoustic and sound producing qualities
  • Working in temperature and humidity controlled environments
  • Attention to colour matching and design
  • A patient awareness of the delicate processes of manufacturing, including wood tuning, thickness, bracing and finishing techniques, guaranteeing beauty and quality
  • Nathan Gaunt played his Signature Series Ellis Triple 0 live for the first time when he played the support slot for The Tea Party at Belvoir Amphitheatre in November, 2004. Likewise, Dave Mann introduced his Signature Series Ellis Dreadnought when he supported Pete Murray at King’s Park in December, 2004.

The Australia Day eve show will give both professional and bedroom guitarists alike the chance to hear the latest offerings from ellis guitars. Andrew Ellis will be on hand to answer any questions about the new guitars. The next project for ellis guitars is building a custom-made instrument for acclaimed roots acts, Nathan Kaye.
