LEATHERWOOD
Eucryphia Lucida Ellis Guitars uses Leatherwood as tonewood tops on their custom acoustic stompbox. This timber is an exotic wood from Australia.
Australian Leatherwood, Eucryphia Lucida produces the unique Leatherwood Honey. Bees produce this from the nectar of the
Tasmanian Leatherwood flowers. The Leatherwood is endemic to Tasmania, Australian. Leatherwood is the single most important nectar plant in
Tasmania accounting for about 70% of all honey produced. Unblended Leatherwood honey has a unique taste and smell which is quite different
from that of blended honey and to many people consider it an acquired taste. This distinctive spicy flavour has made Leatherwood honey a
reputation as a fine gourmet product both in Australia and overseas.
Leatherwood is used as guitar inlay material on Ellis
custom acoustic guitars, and as Stompbox tonewood on the Ellis custom acoustic stompbox. Australian Leatherwood is primarily orange,
pink and light brown in colours. No figure but the subtle meshing of earthy colours. |
